Available for sale is an original vintage Enicar Compressor Diver GMT Sherpa Guide 600 automatic date reference AR1146. One thing to note is that many of these early Enicar Sherpa dials have not stood the test of time, often with horrible aging, this particular one is very eye pleasing and looks incredible on the wrist.
Case: 43 mm stainless steel showing signs of previous honest wear. We decided to keep it unpolished in order to leave it as original as possible
Dial/Hands: Original black dial in attractive condition, this dial is completely original and has never been refinished or touched up. It has turned a nice attractive light grey shade which is stunning on the wrist. Hands are attractive with patina on the lume
Movement: Original automatic movement currently running +48 seconds per day.
Bracelet/Strap: Black leather in previously worn condition
Crystal: Original crystal showing light signs of scuffs typical to a watch of this era
In 1956 a team of Swiss Mountaineers and Sherpas ascended Mount Everest, on their wrist the Enicar Seapearl. Capitalising on the media attention surrounding this ascent, Enicar added the Sherpa moniker to their watches and one of the most famous tool watches of the mid-century was born. The Sherpa series have since become the most desirable pieces in Enicars history, and were available in a multitude of variations in colours, functions and styles – some 100 variations, in fact.
The particular version we have here is known as the Sherpa Guide 600 GMT World Time, and combines the well-known super compressor divers case, with a GMT inner rotating disc and a world time function making for what would have been, and still is, a hell of an all rounder.
Dating from the 60’s, it presents in good vintage condition. The flat black dial is original, and shows signs of wear on the GMT ring, and outer portion of the dial as is common with these. Centre portion of the dial is excellent with minimal marking. Hands are tritium, and glow under UV.
The 43mm steel case is very well preserved, and shows strong lines and even lugs. Shows marks commensurate with age. The case back is also in excellent condition, with clear stamping on the outside. Acrylic domed crystal is in fantastic condition. Dual signed crowns.
