This charming 1962 Tudor Oyster-Prince reference 7950 is a wonderful example of mid-century design, showcasing the highly sought-after “Tuxedo” dial configuration that has become a favourite among vintage enthusiasts. Housed in a classic stainless steel Oyster case, the watch features a striking two-tone dial: a deep black centre framed by a contrasting silver chapter ring with fine radial texturing. This bold yet elegant contrast is what earned the dial its “Tuxedo” nickname, much like the formal black jacket paired with a crisp white shirt, the dial’s black and silver combination creates a refined, dressy aesthetic while retaining understated sportiness. Slim baton markers and elegant dauphine hands complete the balanced composition, offering excellent legibility and timeless style.
Powered by its original self-winding movement, this reference 7950 has recently been serviced by our watchmaker, ensuring it runs reliably and is ready to be enjoyed on the wrist. The “Rotor Self-Winding” text on the dial is a proud nod to Tudor’s early automatic technology, a significant innovation of the era that helped define the Oyster-Prince line. Paired with a classic black leather strap, the watch sits comfortably and wears with effortless vintage appeal.
With its beautifully aged dial, modest case proportions, and distinctive mid-century character, this 1962 Tudor embodies true vintage charm. The subtle patina, the unique Tuxedo dial layout, and its connection to the rich heritage of Tudor’s early automatic watches make it a compelling piece for collectors and first-time vintage buyers alike — an elegant, characterful timepiece that captures the spirit of the early 1960s.
