The Macassa mine, situated in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, stands as one of the world’s top gold-grade mines. Gold has played a central role in the town’s story since it was first discovered in the region back in 1911. From 1905 to 1935, numerous mines were established in the area, collectively producing over 23 million ounces of gold throughout the 20th century.

A major milestone for Macassa came in 2005 with the discovery of the high-grade South Mine Complex (SMC) zone. This find not only enhanced ore quality but also boosted production levels beyond historical averages. By 2023, the Company had expanded its efforts further by tapping into additional resources from the Near Surface deposit and the adjacent Amalgamated Kirkland (AK) deposit. These deposits, accessible via a shallow ramp at Macassa, were integrated into the mine’s production strategy and forecasts.
